Yesterday I was willing to write this exact article, but I couldn’t because I woke up late and had a messy morning! Ironically, although I set the alarm and promised myself to get this done, I broke my word, and it broke my heart. Not to sound melodramatic, but because I had a messy morning, it affected my productivity & mood throughout the whole day. So, I got upset and promised myself to adopt the 7-morning habits to make my next day better.

The next day!

Fortunately, I woke up early this time, cleaned my room, meditated, and had a healthy breakfast. Although it was hard to leave my bed & resist snoozing my alarm, somehow I did it and it felt so good.

By then, I had a long day ahead of me, plenty of time & energy to get things done. All that was thanks to making good use of my morning, and now writing this article is more fun than expected.

I might sound hypocritical and self-involved, but I’m not sharing this personal experience to brag about myself (lame isn’t it). My honest purpose was to share a story that taught me the importance of making your day right by starting your morning right!

So, the way you start your morning influences the quality of your day; thus, your entire life.

I learned this lesson the hard way, and I don’t want you to get through the same thing. Below, you’ll find a list of 7-morning habits to make your day, boost your productivity, and improve the quality of your entire life.

Your sleep habits determine the outcome & overall quality of your day!

1 – Wake up early

Straightforward! Waking up early is key to succeeding in your morning routine.

If you cannot rise up early, I’m afraid you can’t stick to any of the other morning habits on the list. In other words, you should make it a habit. Try breaking through from the comfort of your bed, and don’t snooze your alarm to go back to sleep. It is a sweet trap!

That’s because when you snooze the alarm and go back to sleep, you wire your brain into making it a habit (you get used to it). That’s why getting up early will get more & more challenging, and the purpose of an alarm will be useless in the first place.

To become an early riser and make good use of the morning, there is a number of helpful tricks you can try:

Sleep well

Getting enough sleep will make it easier to wake up early in the morning without feeling tired or sick. Otherwise, when you’re not sleeping well, your body takes more time to recover, which makes it harder to get up.

Also, good sleep is not always about the hours you spend sleeping! Instead, it is about the quality of your sleep. You might sleep 8 hours, yet you wake up feeling down & exhausted.

Accordingly, sleeping should be about relaxing your body & mind. It is about de-stressing and letting go of anxiety and pressure. Fortunately, you can achieve that by meditating before going to bed. This will definitely improve the quality of your sleep and help you rise up early in the morning.

Don’t stay up too late

Staying up too late isn’t healthy even for night owls. That’s because it hinders your body’s recovery as well as disorients your natural sleeping quota and circadian rhythms. However, if you find it hard to sleep early I suggest you do the following:

  • Abstain from drinking caffeinated drinks such as coffee, coke, and energy drinks. That’s because caffeine & energy drinks have a direct disruptive influence on your natural sleep. In other words, caffeinated drinks make it harder for you to sleep because they stimulate your brain to be alert, which delays the natural time you fall asleep.
  • Also, constant exposure to blue light before you go to bed impacts your sleep. Thus, I recommend you get off your phone one hour before sleeping. The blue light coming from the phone screens suppresses the natural release of melatonin that helps us sleep at night.

Melatonin is an essential hormone responsible for feelings of tiredness & drowsiness that enable us to fall asleep. Yet, blue light blocks its natural release, because it tricks our brains into believing it’s daytime. 

As a result, we end up feeling alert, which disrupts our sleep. So, either wear protective glasses against blue light or get off your phone. This will grant you sound sleeping and help you wake up fine the next morning.

Use a stimulating alarm

This solution is annoying, but it works every time. You can use alarms (apps)  that stimulate your brain to wake up, and they’re not easily skipped.

They’re loud, and their user interface forces you to pass a small task like shaking the phone for 5s or matching words to shut it down. This technique is very effective because it stimulates your brain to wake up, unlike regular alarms that can be snoozed by a simple click.

The alarm I currently am using is I can’t Wake Up! Alarm Clock made by Kog Creations. It is available on the Play Store & it’s very annoying yet very effective. It can raise the dead from their graves for god’s sake!

Avoid masturbating before you sleep

Instead of masturbation, you can exercise because it will help release negative energy, stress, and tension. Accordingly, you will feel much relaxed & well-prepared for a much-needed shuteye.

When you masturbate your body consumes important nutrients & minerals that take a longer time to be regenerated. Doing it before sleeping is more negative because it destabilizes your hormones, which disrupts your natural sleep. Also, it makes rising up more difficult due to the loss of nutrients & energy caused by ejaculation. As a result, your body will take a longer time to recover leading to a feeling of downness & exhaustion in the morning.

Benefits of waking up early!

Waking up early has various benefits for your health & life quality

Obviously, rising up early has several benefits for your overall health & performance. Also, It has a positive impact on the quality of your day and the rest of your life. So, let’s find out some of them:

  • Rising up early saves you plenty of time. It enables you to start your daily routine seamlessly & calmly without unnecessary rush and pressure.
  • It gives you time to put yourself together in the right state of mind while preparing yourself for the day without rushing all over the place.
  • The morning hours provide a quiet & serene atmosphere to clear tasks and get things done. That’s because your mind is more focused, and your body is more energized at the time.
  • Waking up early also gives you time to practice healthy activities such as meditation, exercising, reading, etc.
  • Moreover, rising up early is proven to improve your mood & mental health. Also, it improves your cognitive functions as well as helps you to sleep early at night.

Sorry night owls, I know the night is cool and has a special vibe to it, but rising up early seems to offer a lot more! (another lame joke you’re forced to read).

2 – Make sure you make your bed

Making your bed once you wake up is a very important morning habit

I know! It sounds cliche or even trivial. Still, making your bed after you wake is very effective to start your day the right way.

Even though it is a small task, when you accomplish it, you encourage yourself to clear the next task by creating a positive loop.

By making your bed, you organize space around you. In return, you create a sort of inner stillness and subdue the chaos inside. After all, our surrounding environment influences our behavior & inner experience. That’s why we need to establish a healthy and organized space to positively reinforce more order and less chaos in our lives.

I know that making your bed won’t change a lot in the scheme of things, but at least it gives a positive push to get your day going. It creates a positive loop. Make your bed. brush your teeth. meditate for ten minutes. exercise & do some stretching. read for 30 minutes and so on.

One positive deed leads to another till you end up having a whole positive day! To a more positive life. 

3 – Make sure you scrape your tongue & brush your teeth

Usually, since we were kids, we were told to brush our teeth after having breakfast. However, it’s healthier to brush our teeth as soon as we wake up! That’s because there is a type of bacteria called “Plaque” that builds upon our teeth during sleep.

So, it is recommended you brush your teeth after you wake up to get rid of the Plaque buildup in your mouth.

Moreover, by brushing the moment you wake up, you protect your gums & teeth against sugars and acids. It’s Thanks to fluoride in your toothpaste that you create a protective layer that keeps your teeth & mouth healthy.

Brushing & scraping your tongue are a very vital morning habit for your health and wellbeing

Apart from brushing your teeth, scraping your tongue is also very important, and here’s why:

  • By scraping, you remove bacteria from the back of your tongue. This ensures a fresh breath & removes any bad breath caused by the bacteria.
  • Scraping your tongue helps remove mucus & improve your taste for a more enjoyable breakfast. Mucus is a naturally produced material by our bodies to trap bacteria inside the mouth. However, too much mucus may block your taste buds, which weaken your tasting sensitivity. Therefore, scraping removes unnecessary mucus & enhances your taste.
  • It strengthens your immunity. When you scrape your tongue, you prevent your body from reabsorbing toxins, which boosts your immunity system.
  • Generally, scraping improves the overall health of your teeth & gums and saves your smile.

After all, there is nothing better than kicking off your day with a wide and bright SMILE!

4 – Make sure you have a healthy breakfast

You already know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Still, do you have a healthy breakfast? ( this if you have one at all!). Sticking to a healthy breakfast is essential to ensure a healthy life. Usually, your breakfast must consist of grains, healthy fats, and lean protein. As a result, you will enjoy several health benefits including:

  • Improved concentration & focus throughout the day, which enhances your productivity and performance.
  • You will feel less tired and hungry during the day.
  • It will provide you with more energy to deal with daily pressure.
  • Having a healthy breakfast prevents the danger of obesity & overweight

So, it is not a good idea to skip breakfast because you will miss out on many health benefits. Also, you will deprive your body of vital nutrients, minerals, and vitamins that can only be sufficed through a healthy breakfast. Therefore, try making your breakfast a delicious priority.

5 – Make sure you meditate

Instead of checking your social media feed the moment you wake up, meditate for a couple of minutes. After all, meditation is a very healthy activity that boosts both your psychological & physical health. It radically improves your concentration, reduces stress & anxiety as well as installs inner stability.

Meditation will help you start your day with positive energy & attitude that influences your behaviors within the entire day. In other words, it puts you in the right frame of mind. However, your meditation sessions mustn’t be very long & time-consuming. For instance, you can start by meditating for 3 minutes, in which you focus on your breathing & surroundings. Then, you can increase the duration gradually.

6 – Practice yoga & do some stretchings

Like meditation, practicing yoga & stretching your body in the morning are very beneficial for your overall health. That’s because when you do it, you loosen up your muscles after a night’s sleep as well as increase your blood flow to every muscle in your body.

Also, investing a few minutes in practicing yoga poses will help you:

  • Get rid of muscle stiffness in the morning.
  • let go of stress, release tension, and relax your body.
  • Organize your breathing rhythm & release happy hormones such as dopamine and endorphin

Apart from that, practicing the above activities will enhance your productivity for a long day yet to come. So, don’t hesitate to invest 10 minutes of me-time each morning. Otherwise, your day may be as stiff as your body.

7 – Get off your phone for 1h after you wake up!

You shouldn`t use your phone once you wake up!

Usually, we feel tempted to check our phones in the comfort of our beds once we rise up. But, this habit has a serious impact on our mood & mental health. That’s because phones bombard us with a constant stream of stressors like notifications, messages, news, and many more. Unfortunately, our brains aren’t wired to process this crazy amount of instant stimulation & information. In return, it leads to distraction & increases our stress levels.

So, instead of holding your phone, try to make use of your morning by doing something that boosts your relaxation and keeps focused. Your mind needs peace and the early hours of the morning are a great opportunity to attain it. Don’t sacrifice that because of a mere device!
